Since 2017, Carmen Castro astonishes us with her special touch for making unique, artisan soaps for daily use and delicate skins. She also makes body butter, body splash, healing lotions, lip balms, and scrubs. It has taken hers years of rigorous research to find the perfect balance of medicinal plants, organic oils, and butters to make each one of her products special.
But let me take you to the beginning. It was Carmen's daughters' skin conditions that made her look for natural remedies to improve their quality of life. At first, she only made products at home for personal use, but after hurricane Maria impacted the island, the amount of people with skin allergies increased, and she felt she needed to do something more.
Abu's Soaps 'n Bubbles was founded after people found their soaps and lotions to treat allergies, and other skin conditions effectively.
"My formulas are changing only to be better than the previous ones. I see my business differently because I am creating it to be better every day. And only I enter into this process. All of this is so because I seek not only to make a soap that smells good, but to make a difference for people with affected skins like my two daughters had."
Carmen wants to continue creating and designing formulas that are renewed and improved every day, and continue to search for excellent additives for the formulation of each bar, and cream. She also wants to reach every person who suffers from conditions like her two daughters, who have had their redness and dermatitis significantly reduced.
But creating products like Carmen does is not easy.
"When you work with an alkali, water, and oil to carry out a chemical process and thus the the magic of alchemy, transforming something that can burn you into something that soothes your skin to make it beautiful, that is the biggest challenge."
The other challenge that Carmen faces is how to get people to believe in a product that does not have phthalates, or other chemicals that are harmful to the skin, or that does not have an elegant media exposure or expensive packaging, which is what usually attracts the public.
"Those who have tried the quality of my soaps know that the packaging is not what gives it its quality. And trying to reach that public that does not know the product, that is a real challenge."
There is nothing that Carmen cannot do to help people who want to improve their quality of life.
